Appraisal Representation for Homeowners
We represent homeowners and policyholders during the insurance appraisal process.
Appraisal may be used when the policyholder and insurance carrier disagree about the amount of a covered property loss. The process is governed by the appraisal provision contained in the insurance policy.

The Process
How It Works
- 1The homeowner selects an appraiser.
- 2The insurance carrier selects an appraiser.
- 3Each appraiser independently evaluates the amount of the loss.
- 4The appraisers exchange information and attempt to reach an agreement.
- 5When they cannot agree, the matter may be submitted to an umpire.
- 6An agreement signed by any two members of the appraisal panel may establish the amount of the loss, subject to the policy and applicable law.
Our Role
Our Role as Your Appraiser
When retained by a homeowner, we analyze the property damage and develop a detailed, supportable position regarding the amount of the loss. Our work may include:
- Reviewing insurance carrier estimates
- Reviewing contractor and mitigation estimates
- Inspecting the property
- Evaluating photographs, reports, invoices, and claim documents
- Preparing or revising repair estimates
- Identifying scope and pricing differences
- Communicating with the insurance carrier's appraiser
- Participating in appraisal meetings and inspections
- Presenting disputed items to an umpire when necessary
Although we are selected by the homeowner, an appraiser must evaluate the loss honestly, competently, and based on the available evidence.
Scope
What Appraisal Generally Addresses
The appraisal process generally addresses the amount of the property loss, including disputed scope and pricing.
Appraisal does not typically determine whether the insurance policy provides coverage for a particular cause of loss or damaged item. Coverage and policy interpretation remain subject to the insurance policy, the insurance carrier, applicable law, and the appropriate licensed or legal professionals.
